A native of North Carolina, Christopher Bensen, M.D., FAAOS, received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina during which he received the prestigious Charles H. Herndon Award from the National Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation for his research on bone grafts. Following his residency, he returned to UNC for a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship and served as an assistant team physician for the Tar Heels.

Dr. Bensen is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sport Medicine. His clinical interests include:

• Minimally-invasive reconstructive knee and shoulder surgery, including partial and total joint replacement
• Arthroscopic surgery
• Sports medicine

Dr. Bensen was the team orthopaedic surgeon for Appalachian State University, Lees-McRae College and Avery High School in North Carolina. He has authored or co-authored four book chapters and numerous scientific journal articles and has given more than 20 national and international presentations on his research. In addition to the Charles H. Herndon Award, Dr. Bensen is the recipient of the following:

• North/South Carolina Orthopaedic Association Resident Research Award, 2000
